Paul Gurney

A graduate of Stanford University, and the University of Kansas School of Law, Judge Gurney had over three decades of trial experience when he was appointed to the Johnson County District Court in 2013, having represented individuals, as well as a variety of businesses and governmental entities, in courts across the metro area.

During his nearly ten years on the Court, Judge Gurney handled a civil docket, hearing cases involving claims of legal and medical malpractice, personal injury, and construction defects, as well as commercial and real estate disputes. He conducted numerous jury and bench trials, as well as mediations, and he presided over many cases of complex, and multi-party litigation.

Judge Gurney brings his extensive experience, from the perspective of both a judge and a litigator, to the practice of mediation. Highly ranked by members of the Johnson County Bar for both his knowledge of the law and his fairness, Judge Gurney recognizes the value of mediation, based on carefully calculated case evaluation, to assist litigants in achieving their goal of efficient case resolution.
